Apprentice Bilal Rehman was unemployed and held down a succession of temporary jobs before registering with J 21.
The 21-year-old, who lives in Deeplish in Rochdale, decided to pursue a career in the construction industry as an electrician after completing his A-levels.
He initially endured short bouts of unemployment and enrolled in a number of temporary jobs before expressing an interest in the construction sector and registering with J21.
In September 2006, J21 helped Bilal enrol at Oldham College on a part-time City & Guilds Electrotechnical Technology 2330 course, two evenings a week.
He was then employed with Headman Construction Ltd as a General Operative on Radclyffe School in Oldham and once this contract finished, J21 arranged an interview for Bilal with Fibreopticsuk Ltd.
Fibreopticsuk Ltd is part of Artisan Construction Group who are developing East Central Rochdale in conjunction with BASE – one of HMR’s four developer partners.
Bilal successfully got the job and is currently working on a large development in central Manchester, putting the theory into practice.
“It’s taken me a while to find something I enjoy and I’m really grateful to J21 for their guidance and support,” said Bilal.
