62 year-old Geoff Waller lives in Rochdale. Upon completing his A-levels at Bentham Grammar School he decided to pursue a career in the construction industry, as a trainee surveyor.
Over the past 40 years, Geoff has held a succession of professional and managerial positions having worked for a number of reputable regional and national house builders.
His career history is exemplary and the experience accumulated over this period has enabled Geoff to sustain employment in one of the most volatile industry sectors. However, more recently Geoff experienced a short bout of unemployment; the company he worked for was acquired by a national house builder, which consequently led to a number of local redundancies.
At this point, he registered with Job Centre Plus and after a few meetings was referred to Specialist Construction Advisor – Margaret Alger. Margaret referred Geoff to J21, who at the time had been assisting a local demolition contractor fill a number of managerial positions. It is extremely rare to have someone of Geoff’s calibre register with J21; given this, we did not hesitate to refer him to PGC Demolition for interview. Nor was it a surprise to learn that PGC offered Geoff the position of Contracts Manager. A fortuitous opportunity, the timing and speed of jobmatching was the essence! Geoff Waller: “I’m grateful for the support given by Margaret Alger and Bob Barber from J21.
This joint working has demonstrated the need for a resource that can link people to jobs and help businesses recruit the expertise they need to compete. This service is invaluable, especially for those with limited skills and experience. I hope it continues to benefit local businesses and people for many years to come”.
