The work of an organisation that ensures Rochdale residents make the most of opportunities in the construction industry has been recognised in the North-West Construction Awards.

J21, the labour into construction initiative is shortlisted in the category ‘Local people, local jobs’.

Over 35 organisations and local authorities from across the region will go up against each other in the finals for the North West Construction Awards, which are now in their fourth year. The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on 27 May.

Project Manager Bob Barber said, “We are very pleased to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award in recognition of the work we do. We are all looking forward to the results being announced.”

Andrew Thomas, Chief Executive of the Centre for Construction Innovation, said, “The quality and range of entries get better year on year, the previous three years have been a huge success; with past winners going on to achieve national accolades. I have no doubt that this year’s awards will, once again, prove that the North West stands at the forefront of the construction industry”.

J21 is a partnership established by the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder, Rochdale and Oldham Councils, Hopwood Hall College and The Oldham College.

Its purpose is to help local businesses to secure contracts on major construction projects taking place in both boroughs and to support local people to access jobs and training in the construction sector. This will help sustain and grow the sector locally, and address skills shortages
