A new partnership between J21, Job Centre Plus and award winning Rochdale contractor: Jackson Jackson & Sons Ltd, is delivering results for local people.
The partnership aims to recruit, train and progress unemployed people into construction, and so far has recruited dozens of general operatives and apprentices on behalf of local contractor Jackson Jackson, as part of their long-term commitment to employing and developing the skills of local people.
Not only does the partnership help them into work but continues to develop their construction skills by placing them on part-time training with Hopwood Hall and The Oldham College, so they can become fully qualified construction operatives and increase their earning potential.
Graham Jackson, Managing Director said “We get regular enquiries from local people seeking employment in construction, in particular from school leavers looking for apprenticeship positions. I’m a strong believer in creating jobs for local people, especially for entry level workers struggling to get onto the first rung of the ladder. Last month I interviewed 6 potential apprentices, of which 3 will be employed and developed into high quality tradesman. We employ over 100 people of which 95 live in Rochdale and serve the company well. This new partnership will help to strengthen our policy for keeping it local whether it’s employing labour, using local subcontractors or buying materials from local merchants”
Jackson, Jackson & Sons Ltd, is renowned for delivering high quality contracts to the public and private sector. With most of its work being undertaken within the boroughs of Oldham & Rochdale, the company has confidence it can sustain it policy of local employment, which makes it an employer of choice for apprentices that may struggle to work beyond the boundary of Greater Manchester.
