BASE Sign J21 Employment Charter

BASE commit to employment opportunities for local residents with signing of J21 Employment and Training Charter.

BASE, a joint venture between design led, mixed use development specialist Artisan Property Group and Barratt, Britain’s best known housebuilder and leading urban regenerator, has demonstrated it’s commitment to supporting local communities in Oldham and Rochdale with the signing of an Employment and Training Charter. Established by J21, a local labour and construction initiative, the Charter commits both BASE and it’s sub-contractors to an eight-year programme of employing a minimum of 45 residents in the Oldham and Rochdale boroughs.

The Charter is already working - with BASE employing it’s first local resident to work on it’s development at Trafalgar Street, Wardleworth, Rochdale, where 54 eco-homes are being built as part of the multi-million pound regeneration of East Central Rochdale.

A further 3 residents have been recruited by BASE, and two local contractors, MK Piling and PGC Demolition have secured work on the BASE developments.

BASE spokesperson Stephen Todd, said: “As well as being committed to producing high quality homes the reflect the needs of the local area, BASE is equally determined to create sustainable neighbourhoods. Signing the Charter reflects our ambition to generate added value to the development process, by giving local people the chance to prosper in the building and construction industry.”

Sarfraz Arfran, Manager of J21, said: “The relationship between BASE and J21 has got-off to an excellent start, with the creation of four jobs and appointment of two local contractors. BASE is highly committed to the principal of local labour; I’m confident we’ll exceed the targets stated and generate additional benefits for the community. This is a long-term commitment that will make a positive contribution to the prosperity of Oldham & Rochdale”.
