In Rochdale, over 5,000 people are employed in the construction sector. The majority of these are highly skilled and employed by local contractors; most of these contractors operate across the North West and some across the UK, this can be challenging for workers that aim to achieve a work-life balance. To maximise the local benefit, a key objective of J21 is to increase the number of local people employed on major capital projects, such as Kingsway Business Park, either directly for the main contractor, their subcontractors or preferably, for a local contractor working on the scheme.

 

J21 place great emphasis on supporting new entrants into work, such as college leavers, the temporary unemployed, the underemployed, skilled and semi-skilled workers, those at risk of redundancy from other sectors, university students, graduates and experienced labourers wanting to better themselves. We have over 450 Oldham & Rochdale residents registered with J21, all of whom are seeking some form of construction related employment; we have invested hundreds of thousands of pounds on construction skills training to get people job-ready.
